HN furniture fares better than some

5 August 2010

Furniture and bedding traded comparatively well at Harvey Norman over the past financial year, despite a housing market-led slowdown in the sector, according to the retailer's recently released full year results.

Sales across all Harvey Norman divisions for the year ended 30 June were up 0.8 per cent, while like for like sales increased 0.2 per cent compared to the previous corresponding period.

Sales data were negatively affected by a 2.1 per cent deterioration in the New Zealand dollar, a 17.3 per cent deterioration in the Euro and a 20.9 per cent deterioration in the UK pound.

While electrical and computer sales softened during the period, home furnishings fared better however.

"Furniture and bedding continue to take market share despite the industry experiencing a slow-down with the dampened housing market."
