Retailers should ensure they are well prepared to take advantage of a strengthening trading environment, according to a leading industry commentator.


Queensland company Coral Coast has signed as a new exhibitor for the Decoration + Design fair (D+D) in Sydney next year. Based on the Sunshine Coast, the company began as a designer and producer of photo albums, scrapbooks and photo frames but has since moved into new categories.


Small business trading conditions improved in the three months to September to stand at their highest in 18 months, a new survey from The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) shows.

Snooze revamp boosts sales

Sales staff at Snooze are sleeping sweetly at night following the standout performance of a recently revamped key store. Since its refurbishment in September last year, Snooze's Auburn, NSW, outlet has seen a 26 per cent increase in sales from the previous year, and average increase of $200 per sale.


Indian textiles, furniture and homewares importer Ruby Star Traders has signed to take part in Decoration + Design for the first time early next year.


Furniture retailer Nick Scali is expecting a 77 per cent jump in its first half profit for 2010. Managing director Anthony Scali told shareholders at the company's annual meeting recently that net profit would weigh in at about $4.5 million, up from $2.5 million in the previous corresponding period.


Retailers are concerned a 0.25 per cent interest rate rise on November 3 could dent consumer confidence in the lead up to the 2009 Christmas trading season, according to peak retail industry body the Australian Retailers Association (ARA).
