Globe West, the exclusive Australian distributor of eco-friendly brand Box Furniture, successfully released the latest Box Furniture collection at Decoration & Design Melbourne last month.

Globe West's Stephen Mendel said the show was a triumph for the brand, which planned to exhibit again next year.

Founded in 1997 by architects Maya Basyroel and Marcel Opstal, Box Furniture could not be defined by one particular style. The brand name Box Furniture was deliberately chosen for its neutral tone, confirmed co-founder Marcel Basyroel.

"Box is defined by its versatility, its ability to change and move on as people¹s demands and tastes change. Our goal is to understand what our clients want even before they have defined it themselves. We do not want to follow fashions: we want to create fashions by understanding our clients' needs and tastes better than they understand them themselves."

With increased awareness regarding environmental issues, consumers from affluent, developed countries were increasingly demanding that the products they used conformed to strict environmental standards, added Globe West's Stephen Mendel.

As part of its endeavours to broaden its appeal to its target markets and as a sign of its own commitment to environmental issues, parent company PT Bokdesindo had successfully sought the prestigious and internationally recognized FSC-COC Certification (Forest Stewardship Council - Chain of Custody) for a number of its products after being audited by SmartWood.

In 2006 Box Furniture designers Maya Basyroel and Marcel Opstal were the recipients of the coveted 2006 American Society of Furniture Designers
(ASFD) Pinnacle Design Achievement Awards for the Marga Chair.

Box Furniture has been used in Intercontinental Hotels, Westins, Banyan Tree Resorts
Duo Restaurant & Bar, Imperial Housing, Kuriya Restaurant, Plumeria 15 Resort, Snell Arcade, Taste on Sussex.

The brand exports to more than 25 countries on six continents.

Box Furniture launched its latest range at Decoration + Design from 15-18 July at Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
